Feng Shui Tips to Enhance Your Outdoor Space

Hey, it’s Leigh Ann Betts for what’s up Wednesday. This could be entertaining because I’m outside, it’s actually ironic. There is some guy doing leaf blowing over there. And I guess that’s appropriate for today’s topic. Because today I wanted to talk about ways that you can Feng Shui and beautify your outdoors. Because it’s so beautiful out. I don’t know if I can show you how beautiful the yard is, here. Maybe not.

We’ve got a really big yard here. And it’s so big in fact, we took of 90 bags of leaves last year. 30 in the spring, and 60 in the fall. So getting our sleeves rolled up and getting organized in the yard is a big thing in this house.

Today I wanted to give you a few things that you can do outside when you are enjoying your outdoor space that can help enhance the energy of it. In Feng Shui a big thing is having the energy be able to come up to your door, or come into your yard. So a big thing is having a really nice pathway to your front door, or to a garden, if you have a separate garden or yard area.

I just keep laughing because of this guy blowing the leaves over there. I was waiting to see if he was going to finish, but I think it’s a full day job.

Really nice to have beautiful stones or steps coming up to your home. Having beautiful pots, shrubbery, things around that are manicuring the sides of the pathway. Lights are also really big at welcoming energy in. Another thing you can do, actually I have my thing here, and it’s a gazing ball. You can put a gazing ball in your yard or garden.

Or what I like to do because I have stairs coming up to my home, which makes it harder for the energy to come up, I actually have it right beside my door.

You have this beautiful pathway leading up to your door. You got flowers, shrubs, maybe some lights. And when you come to your door, you first of all want to make sure your door is nice and clean. And that your light bulbs on either side of the door or if you have one, aren’t burnt out, they are actually in working order. And have a red mat if you can, which is a beautifully energy enhancing element that you can bring in. I can’t seem to find a red matt anywhere, so if you know where a red matt is, please tell me below.

I would also love to hear from you about some of the things you do to energize your yard or to beautify your space, too. Please type that below!

Make sure your door is clean. And it’s also nice to have two sentinels on either side of your door. So that could be beautiful pots with flowers in it, or shrubs. Or you might like statues. Lots of people like Buddha’s, things like that. Or angels. Maybe you like water feeders for birds, things like that, that you can have on either side of your door. That is something else to do.

The other thing is, the windows of your home are the eyes of the home. You want them to be clean. Clean them on the inside and the outside. Then, you are going to have more clarity in your own life. Plus it just looks beautiful when you are looking outside and you can see through some nice clean windows.

Clean your windows. Then, the other thing is, store all of your tools and outdoor stuff in a nice shed. Where you can close it. So it’s not just left everywhere. Because obviously that’s clutter. And as we know, clutter is something we want to avoid if we’re increasing the energy of our space.

Other things that are clutter would be things like leaves are considered clutter. So dry leaves. Any kind of garbage that’s blown in over the wintertime. Anything that’s dead. Like dead shrubs or branches, things like that that need to be pruned off.  So roll up your sleeves and get going on that.

What else did I want to tell you? Bring the indoors outdoors. We spend so much time, especially where we live in Canada, in the Rocky Mountains, inside during the winter months. So start living outside. I have got my nice red couch here that I just got last year. And we spend a lot of time enjoying coffees out here. Or the boys just hang out, maybe look at their computer. Read a book. So bring the indoors outdoors, so you can live outside more. Get some nice patio furniture. You can get those nice chimneys, you can get heaters. You can just go crazy if you go to Home Sense and things like that to get beautiful things for your outdoor space. Plus it’s super fun.

The other thing is, if you have problem neighbors, I was going to give you a couple of cures. A hedge works on your property line. And it actually means peace. So there’s a reason people put hedges between neighbors. If you are having an issue, do that.

If you have a tree or something and can hang a wind chime, that is another beautiful thing to do to create more harmony between you and your neighbor.

Speaking of wind chimes, wind chimes are also a beautiful element to have at your front door. You could have a wind chime or wind sock or some people like to have flags, if you are really patriotic, have the flag of your country, maybe it’s your favorite team, something like that. Because it actually moves the energy as well. So that’s another way to bring the flow into your space.

Then, add lights. I mentioned this in the beginning in your pathway, but add lights in various places on your property. Do you ever drive by a house and they’ve got the tree trunks done up with these little white lights? Just looks so stunning. You can do stuff like that, or you can put lights on your deck. You might have some beautiful panels you put out at night, and there are so many solar things you can get now to light up.

There’s an especially good Feng Shui cure which is to have on the four areas of your yard, to have the light shining into your space. So everything is shining in, so it’s shining on your house. And it’s like a really great cure. I haven’t done this cure at our house. I’m still looking for lights to do that and how that would work in terms of plugging them in and stuff like that. So, that’s on my list. Hopefully I will find something this year to do that with.

I’m getting super excited to go to the hardware store. And to beautify the space, not only with the planting pots that I do, but if you like the angels that you can put in and all the little garden gnomes and all that kind of fun stuff. So have fun. Get out there. Get your hands dirty. Put your bare feet on the ground. Pick up some of that good energy.

It’s been proven that we do get rejuvenated and energized by being outside and being on the earth. So, go out there. Get your hands dirty. Have fun. Clean up your space, and really enjoy being outside this summer and spring.

That’s it for this week. Until then, get out there and get dirty.
